[MARCH 20-21 2025]
We Have Never Asked Permission, Glori Tuitt (@glorifice_ | glorituitt.com).
Convened by Queer X Humanities co-director, Sa Whitley, and Aaron Mallory, both faculty in the ASU School of Social Transformation, Black Trans Futurities: Political Imaginaries in the Academy and the Arts is a symposium that brings together scholars, artists, & local community members to reflect on the field of Black Trans Studies & imagine its future. Over two days, Black Trans Futurities will include workshop sessions, a keynote panel, a black trans* poetics salon in downtown Phoenix, turn-ups, & freedom dreaming in the Phoenix Metro Area. We welcome 33 participants working in Black Trans Studies at the intersections of black feminisms & trans of color critique.
***Co-Sponsors: ASU School of Social Transformation, ASU Humanities Institute, the ASU New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, & the ASU Center for Work and Democracy
"Empowered by these Black trans frameworks, gestures, and ideologies, it's time to reanimate our study with a scholarly ethic that builds archives alongside communities and creates opportunity for critical political transformation."
